Background of the Conference

India is one among the fastest growing economies in the world. Manufacturing, services and agriculture sectors are contributing to the growth of Indian economy. The economic prosperity of the nation is substantially determined by its ability to include all the regions and all the stakeholders. In the process of development at the micro level, some of the regions and stakeholders are highly prosperous exhibiting higher growth rate, but some are still backward on different socio-economic indicators even after about seven decades of independence. Many of them in the country despite having immense growth opportunities have not grown to the extent of their potential due to several reasons. Hyderabad Karnataka Region (HKR) is one among such regions. The possible reasons for the underdevelopment can be attributed to unequal distributions of resources, inability to promote economic activities in the region, lack of human resources and skill development, lack of stakeholders’ participation in the regional development, etc. Among various methods to accelerate regional development, entrepreneurship and tourism development find prominence. Growth of entrepreneurship plays the catalytic role in the development of the region by accelerating economic activities and generating employment opportunities. The favourable environment created to bring more entrepreneurial opportunities among educated, youth and women can be the key to the development of the region.
